Dotmod DotAIO Pod Kit Review

Dotmod DotAIO Pod Kit Review

October 23, 2019

Dotmod are a USA based company that have released some of the most beautiful and exciting products we’ve seen in the last few years. Dotmod only produce a small range of high quality products each year, so when something new comes along it’s difficult not to get excited. The Dotmod DotAIO is very much in the same aesthetic style as previous Dotmod products. The difference is here we have an all in one device in a similar style to the Billet Box and Artery Pal 2. It comes in a range of colours that will perfectly match your other Dotmod devices.

Build Quality and Specifications

After pulling the device out of its classy black box, you can’t help but be impressed by the looks and overall finish of the device. It’s simply stunning. It’s a little smaller than you might imagine at just 78mm tall, 42mm wide and 22.5mm deep. You’ll have no problem slipping this into a pocket or small bag.

There’s a whole bunch of extras in the box too. We have a gold 510 drip tip with a fairly narrow bore that should suit mouth to lung vapers and also a slightly wider Delrin tip that would be more suitable for a direct to lung inhale. The DotAIO uses its own unique coils and 2 different types are included, a 0.3 ohm coil for DTL and a 1.6 ohm coil for MTL.

Dotmod have also included an adapter that allows the use of Aspire Nautilus type coils. This gives the user a huge range of coils to choose from and makes buying coils easier if your local shop isn’t a Dotmod stockist. The DotAIO can use coils between 0.28ohms and 2.5ohms. There’s a lot of scope for both MTL and DTL vaping. The main chassis of the device is made from a zinc alloy and feels smooth and comfortable to hold. It’s fairly lightweight too which is a big plus for this kind of device that many will want to use as a daily carry around.

Output and Battery

The DotAIO uses a single 18650 battery for power and has a maximum of 35w of power. It uses a USB-C type connection and a nice cable is included in the kit. The side panel is held securely by magnets and as well as giving you access to the battery compartment, you’ll also find the tank/pod and a power level selection button.

There’s 4 power levels in total that will be different depending on the resistance of the coil. There’s also an airflow control with quite a lot of adjustment that should satisfy most people’s needs. The internal liquid tank holds a TPD friendly 2ml of liquid and there’s spare O-rings and seals included. Overall it’s an impressive looking and feeling device that certainly seems a cut above the more standard AIO systems.

Flavour and Performance

The tank inside the device is made of a strong plastic material and filling is a simple affair. It’s just a case of removing the silicon bung and filling the tank. The coils are simple to change too with a very simple pull and plug type system.

Starting with the 0.3 ohm coil and a high VG liquid performance as a DTL device was very good. The flavour was not far off my favourite RDA, which is pretty amazing for a AIO with a much smaller coil. That said this isn’t for you if you are looking to blow monster clouds. As a warm and satisfying DTL vape it’s spot on though.

Switching to the MTL coil and closing the airflow down to something a little more restricted I felt it worked equally as well, if not a little better. I’d also changed the 510 tip to something I preferred a little more. I got one of the best AIO MTL experiences I’ve probably ever had. It’s on par with any good MTL traditional tank and mod set up. Overall I was impressed with the flavour and overall vaping experience the DotAIO provided.

Overall Performance and Summary

The Dotmod DotAIO is not an inexpensive product by any means. The device with a spare packet of coils will set you back the best part of £100. If you wouldn’t dream of spending that on a vaping device then this clearly isn’t going to be for you. So would I recommend it? As a special gift for a loved one, a Christmas treat for yourself, absolutely!

It’s a well made, well designed AIO box that rivals products like the Billet Box and looks and feels beautiful. The vaping experience is very good. The fact you can use Aspire coils means there’s no fear of struggling to find replacement coils. It’s very simple to fill and replace coils and overall I found it a joy to use. If the style appeals and you want to treat yourself then I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
